Lucena preserves a distinctive <\/span>soundscape<\/b><\/a> <\/a>and intangible heritage<\/b>, deeply rooted in the spirit of its \u2018santer\u00eda\u2019 tradition. <\/span><\/p>\n The drum<\/strong> is an essential element of \u2018santer\u00eda\u2019: <\/span>it sets the rhythm of the processional throne<\/b> throughout the procession, adapting to the devotional image, the route and the instructions of the \u2018manijero\u2019. Each devotional image has its own <\/span>distinctive drum rhythm<\/b>, preserved through oral tradition, making the drum an integral part of the <\/span>aesthetic identity and distinctive character<\/b> of Holy Week in Lucena. The drummer, whose attire is the same as that of the<\/span> \u2018santero\u2019, forms an integral part of the \u2018cuadrilla\u2019 (processional crew) and takes part in its \u2018juntas\u2019 and \u2018pase\u00edllos\u2019. Since 1981, the <\/span>Brotherhood of Drummers of Lucena<\/b> has worked to preserve and transmit on this unique sound heritage. As part of the Great Passion Procession, its members will perform a ceremonial \u2018pase\u00edllo\u2019 from their Brotherhood House to the start of the Official Processional Route, proceeding along it from 5.30 p.m.<\/strong>, ahead of the arrival of the first processional throne at 7.00 p.m. <\/span><\/p>\n For its part, the <\/span>\u2018torralbo\u2019<\/b> is a natural trumpet used exclusively for ritual purposes during Holy Week in Lucena. Its <\/span>distinctive sound is brief, high-pitched, and instantly recognisable<\/b>, and it is used to <\/span>announce the approach of the \u2018paso\u2019<\/b> in traditional processions such as those of Our Father Jesus bound to the Column, the Holy Burial of Our Lord Jesus Christ or \u201cLa Pollina\u201d Always performed<\/span>by a single player<\/b>, its performance forms part of the <\/span>ceremonial tradition of Lucena\u2019s \u2018santer\u00eda\u2019<\/b>. The Brotherhood of Drummers of Lucena also plays an important role in keeping this rich sound heritage alive and passing it on to future generations<\/span><\/p>\n Both of these distinctive sounds will be heard throughout the route of the Great Passion Procession. They will be joined, accompanying the Most Holy Christ of Health and Mercy – Silence, by two further sound traditions that are emblematic of Holy Week in Lucena:<\/span><\/span>the <\/span>Call of Silence<\/b>, performed on trumpet <\/span>to emphasise the penitential character of the penitential procession, and a group of members from the Brotherhood of Mourning Drummers<\/strong>, founded in 1971 and officially incorporated into the Brotherhood of the Most Holy Christ of Health and Mercy in 1980.<\/span><\/p>\n In addition, spectators will have the opportunity to experience one of the most moving and deeply spiritual traditions of Holy Week in Lucena: the <\/span>\u2018saeta\u2019<\/b>, which will not be allowed along the Official Processional Route. Performed by <\/span>renowned \u2018saeteros\u2019 from across Andalusia<\/b>, these sung prayers will rise from balconies and hidden corners along the route, transforming silence into prayer. In Lucena, where celebrated \u2018saeteros\u2019 such as <\/span>Perrilleja and Alcantarilla<\/b> left an enduring legacy, the \u2018saeta\u2019 forms part of the town\u2019s <\/span>sound heritage<\/b>, brought vividly back to life with every passing processional throne. This Great Passion Procession will offer a unique opportunity to experience that heartfelt song <\/span>through which faith blossoms into music<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n All of this will be complemented by With almost fifty musicians and under the musical direction of Rafael Rodr\u00edguez Castro, the band began rehearsing, driven by the ambition of taking its music throughout Andalusia. In March 2012, it was officially presented with its own uniform and banner,<\/strong> and during its very first Holy Week it accompanied several Brotherhoods, including Our Lady of Araceli.<\/span><\/p>\n It has performed in several Andalusian cities, including Seville, and has taken part in concerts such as <\/span>La Pasi\u00f3n seg\u00fan Andaluc\u00eda (The Passion According to Andalusia)<\/span><\/i> and the Brotherhood Fair <\/span>Capricho Cofrade<\/span><\/i>. Since 1979, it has operated as an independent society, pursuing an uninterrupted history that has led it to take part in processions, concerts and music festivals throughout Andalusia. It comprises around 40 musicians and has a versatile repertoire ranging from processional marches to symphonic music, \u2018zarzuela\u2019 and film music.<\/strong> In 2002, to mark its centenary, it was given the honour by the Archconfraternity of Saint Mary of Araceli of accompanying its \u2018santer\u00eda\u2019 during the ascent to the Sanctuary of Aras, a milestone of profound devotional significance. In 2005, it inaugurated its present headquarters, and since 1995 it has been a member of FEDERBAND. It has promoted music festivals, competitions and tribute events, consistently demonstrating its commitment to musical education and social engagement.
