The brotherhood originated in May 1992<\/strong>, when a group of young people led by Antonio Medina Orellana<\/strong> drove its foundation with the aim of spiritual formation and the enhancement of the Palm Sunday<\/strong> procession. They initially adopted as titular images those of Jesus and Mary from the old Confraternity of the Passion<\/strong>, which depicted the scene of the Farewell and were kept in the private oratory of Juan del Pino<\/strong>, with plans to later incorporate the effigies of Saint John<\/strong> and Mary Magdalene<\/strong>.<\/p>\n After the formation of a governing board chaired by Antonio Jos\u00e9 Mu\u00f1oz Beato<\/strong>, the Agrupaci\u00f3n de Cofrad\u00edas<\/strong> officially accepted the new brotherhood on 25 September 1992<\/strong> under the name of Sacred Encounter of Our Father Jesus of Goodness with Mary Most Holy of Divine Consolation, Saint John the Evangelist and Saint Dominic de Guzm\u00e1n<\/strong>, committing to hold internal acts of worship and to carry out a penitential procession on Palm Sunday from 1996<\/strong> onwards. The restored images and their symbols were presented on 23 January 1993<\/strong> in the parish church of Santo Domingo, in a solemn ceremony with the participation of the Coral Lucentina<\/strong>, a Eucharistic celebration and the placing of a sash on the Virgin of Divine Consolation.<\/p>\n The governing board agreed to replace the original Farewell mystery with that of the Encounter of Jesus with His Mother and Saint John on the Way to Calvary<\/strong>. In 1993<\/strong> the first issue of the magazine Encuentro<\/strong> was published, and Antonio Medina Orellana<\/strong> took over as head of the confraternity. At the same time, plans were made to recover the church of Our Lady of Sorrows<\/strong>, with the Parish of Santiago<\/strong> ultimately adopted as its canonical seat.<\/p>\n In 1995<\/strong> the carving of Our Father Jesus of Goodness<\/strong> was commissioned from the sculptor Francisco Romero Zafra<\/strong>. The image was blessed on 2 March 1996<\/strong> and later carried in a processional Way of the Cross, making its first procession that same year on Palm Sunday. It is a dressed image, carved in cedar wood, with an anatomised, polychrome body and articulated arms. It depicts Jesus embracing his cross \u2014 the work of Juan Carlos Rubio<\/strong> \u2014 on the way to Calvary, at the moment of the encounter on the Way of Sorrows with His Mother and Saint John the Evangelist<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In 1997<\/strong> the images of Mary Most Holy of Divine Consolation<\/strong> and Saint John the Evangelist<\/strong> were blessed; they would go on to form part of a new canopy float made by Bronces Gradit<\/strong>, unveiled in the Holy Monday 1998<\/strong> penitential procession. The Virgin, a dressed image with head and hands carved in cedar wood, is a candlestick-frame figure with articulated arms. Saint John, also a dressed image, with a roughed-out body and head, feet and hands in cedar wood, polychrome and with articulated arms, both came from the chisels of the aforementioned Romero Zafra<\/strong> in 1997. It depicts the two of them in sacred conversation after the encounter with Jesus.<\/p>\n During the following years there was a notable enrichment of its heritage<\/strong>, both in processional regalia and in textile trousseau. At the same time, the brotherhood undertook the complex recovery of the church of Our Lady of Sorrows<\/strong>, built by the Piarist Order<\/strong> in the late 19th century and handed over to the brotherhood in 1995<\/strong>, carrying out major consolidation and improvement works that were completed in 2001<\/strong>.<\/p>\n On 13 June 2002<\/strong> the brotherhood obtained legal status following the approval of its statutes. In later stages, further restorations of the church were carried out, beginning after Holy Week 2009<\/strong>, which led to the reopening and blessing of the church on 17 September 2011<\/strong>, restoring regular worship.
