17 October 2025.– The Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena has presented Lucena’s Parish Charitas with the proceeds from the reservation of seating in Plaza Nueva for the Great Passion Procession (Magna), amounting to €11,227.77.

Plaza Nueva, the focal point of the official processional route for the Great Passion Procession held on 27th September, provided 1,853 seats arranged across ten seating sections. From the outset, the Agrupación de Cofradías announced that, after covering the costs of organising the seating reservations, all proceeds would be donated to charitable causes, thereby reinforcing the event’s social and charitable purpose.

The President of the Agrupación de Cofradías, Antonio Díaz Serrano, emphasised that «the Great Passion Procession (Magna) was not only an expression of faith and heritage, but also a demonstration of commitment to those most in need. This gesture reflects the Christian spirit of charity that permeates our brotherhoods and confraternities and the entire community of Lucena».

For his part, Jesús María Moriana Elvira, Episcopal Vicar for the Campiña and Ecclesiastical Adviser to the Agrupación, emphasised that «support for those most in need lies at the heart of the message of this Jubilee Year. That the Great Procession (Magna) has also helped to support the work of Charitas shows that faith is expressed through deeds and brings hope to those who need us most».

The funds will be used to purchase food and meet other essential needs of the people currently supported by Charitas through its five centres, located at the Major Parish Church of St. Matthew the Apostle, the Parish Church of St. James the Apostle, the Parish Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, the Parish Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and the Parish Church of the Holy Family.

The network of parish Charitas centres in our town, together with its volunteers, provides support and assistance to hundreds of families, helping them not only with food but also with the cost of medicines, bottled gas, electricity, and other essential needs.

The Agrupación de Cofradías would like to thank the volunteers of Lucena’s Parish Charitas for their selfless dedication, which contributed significantly to the success of the Great Passion Procession (Magna). It also expresses its gratitude to all those who attended for their exemplary cooperation throughout this historic event, which placed Lucena firmly on Spain’s cultural and religious tourism map.
