The Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena opens the call for entries for the Lucena Holy Week 2026 Poster Competition

2nd October 2025 – At its ordinary meeting held on Wednesday, 1st October 2025, the Board of Officers of the Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena approved the publication of the rules governing the 2026 Lucena Holy Week Poster Competition. Entries may be submitted every Tuesday throughout October at the headquarters of the Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena, between 8.00 pm and 9.00 pm. The submission deadline is 31st October.

RULES GOVERNING THE LUCENA HOLY WEEK POSTER COMPETITION- 2026 EDITION

PARTICIPANTS

The competition is open to anyone who wishes to participate and complies with the rules set out below.

PRIZES

OFFICIAL POSTER. One prize of 700 EUROS, for the Official Poster of Lucena Holy Week 2026

One prize of 300 EUROS for the artwork selected as the OFFICIAL POSTER promoting the Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena’s official events.  The submitted artworks must depict Lucena Holy Week in any of its aspects or expressions, all of which must be clearly recognisable.           

THEME

The only allowed theme is Lucena Holy Week. The submitted artworks must be original and previously unpublished, and participants are free to choose the subject, setting, location, or any other aspect of their composition. Although this is by no means compulsory, preference will be given to artworks incorporating original and distinctive elements of Lucena Holy Week, such as its monuments, ‘santería’, or brotherhoods and confraternities.

TECHNIQUE

The technique used to produce the posters is entirely unrestricted. Entries may be created using any PAINTING TECHNIQUE, (including oil, tempera, pastel or watercolour) PHOTOGRAPHY, or any form of digital composition. Photomontages are also allowed.

ARTWORKS

Each participant may submit a maximum of fifteen entries. All entries must be submitted in printed form; submissions on CD or any other digital storage device will not be accepted.

All entries must be original and previously unpublished. They must not have been submitted to any previous competition, published on social media, or constitute, in whole or in part, a copy or plagiarism of any other work. The author shall be responsible, both to the Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena and to any third parties, for ensuring compliance with these rules. The participant declares and warrants that he/she is the sole holder of all copyright in the photograph submitted to the competition and accepts full responsibility for ensuring that no third-party image rights are infringed. Any claims regarding the photographs submitted to the competition shall be the sole responsibility of the entrant.

SUBMISSION

All entries must be presented in PORTRAIT ORIENTATION. The choice of colour treatment is left entirely  to the author, whether sepia, black and white, or any other style.

If the entry is a PAINTING: It must measure 50 x 70 cm and be mounted on a stretcher frame or other rigid backing.

If the entry is a PHOTOGRAPH OR DIGITAL COMPOSITION: It must be mounted on white card, with a 2cm border, and measure at least 20 x 28 cm.

Entries in digital format (on CD or any other digital medium) will not be accepted.

PLACE FOR THE SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES

Entries must be submitted to the headquarters of the Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena, Huertas Street 10, ground floor, on any Tuesday during the month of October, between 8.00 p.m. and 9.00 p.m. All entries must be received by the organising committee no later than 9.00 p.m. on 31th October 2025, closing date and time for the submission of entries.

IDENTIFICATION OF ENTRIES

Each participant shall submit a single envelope containing the entries to be entered in the competition. The envelope shall contain the original entries, submitted in printed form and bearing no name, signature or pseudonym, together with a motto or title. The same motto or title shall also be written on the outside of a sealed envelope affixed to the reverse of the entry. This sealed envelope shall contain the author’s identification details, namely: first name and surname(s), address, telephone number and email address. The image itself must not contain any text or the author’s name. Failure to comply with this requirement shall constitute grounds for disqualification.

JUDGING PANEL

The Judging Panel shall consist of the Officers of the Governing Board of the Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena, who may seek the advice of persons of recognised standing in the fields of culture, art, painting and photography. The Secretary of the Agrupación de Cofradías shall act as Secretary to the Judging Panel.

ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS

1. Participation in this competition constitutes acceptance of these rules. The Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena reserves the right to decide any matters not expressly provided for herein.

2. The prize-winning entries shall become the property of the Agrupación de Cofradías, which reserves the right to publish and reproduce them, with due acknowledgement of the author’s name, in accordance with the provisions of the Intellectual Property Act. Non-prize-winning entries shall also become the property of the Agrupación de Cofradías and shall be retained in its archives. The Agrupación de Cofradías may reproduce such entries whenever it deems appropriate and shall acquire all rights necessary for their publication and reproduction on as many occasions as it considers appropriate, provided that the author’s name is always acknowledged.

3.  The Judging Panel may decide not to award one or more of the prizes if it considers this appropriate. In such a case, the Agrupación de Cofradías shall commission the official poster directly from an artist, painter or photographer.

4.    The decision of the Judging Panel shall be final and not subject to appeal. The authors of the prize-winning entries shall be notified of the outcome.

5.  Where the prize-winning entry is a photograph, the winning participant shall provide the Agrupación de Cofradías with the original digital file at a resolution of 300 dpi, in order to ensure the highest possible quality in the production of posters and leaflets.

6.  In accordance with the provisions of Organic Law 15/1999 of 13th December on the Protection of Personal Data, participants are hereby informed that the personal data provided in connection with this competition will be incorporated into the corresponding data file of the Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena. Such data will be processed solely for the purposes of administering participation in the competition and communicating with participants and/or prize winners, in accordance with these Rules. The Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena shall be the data controller and recipient of the personal data. Data subjects may exercise their rights of access, rectification, erasure and objection by writing to the Agrupación de Cofradías, Huertas Street 10, ground floor, Lucena..

7.  Prize winners in the 2025 edition may not participate, either directly or indirectly, in the same category in the 2026 competition, but only in the category in which they were awarded a prize in the 2025 edition.  Failure to comply with this provision shall result in the immediate disqualification of the entry and the exclusion of the author from this competition for a period of five consecutive years.
