Comprehensive security arrangements for Holy Week in Lucena

25th March 2026.- During Holy Week, the Department of Public Safety will implement a comprehensive special security operation, which was presented this morning by the Councillor responsible for the department, Ángel Novillo, accompanied by the Councillor for Tourism, Francisco Barbancho, together with José Pino and David Navas, Chief Inspector and Deputy Chief Inspector of the Local Police, respectively.

The plan provides for the daily deployment of between 15 and 20 officers along the processional routes, reinforcing the busiest areas and ensuring close coordination between the Local Police, the National Polices, the Civil Guard and Civil Protection. The operation will begin on the Friday of Sorrows and will be stepped up on Palm Sunday, continuing throughout the Holy Week to ensure the safety and security of both residents and visitors. Among the new measures introduced this year is improved signage throughout the historic centre, with information panels featuring QR codes that allow visitors to access processional timetables and routes in digital format.

Healthcare prevention is another fundamental pillar of the operation Thanks to the cooperation of the Department of Tourism, ambulances and medical teams will be stationed at strategic locations and during key time slots, such as San Miguel Square during the departure of ‘La Pollinita’, on Holy Tuesday, in the early hours of Maundy Thursday for the departure of ‘El Silencio’, as well as along the processional routes of Our Father Jesus the Nazarene and Our Lady of Solitude, ensuring continuous medical cover for up to 20 hours during the periods of greatest attendance.

Ángel Novillo urged residents and visitors to avoid using private vehicles in the town centre due to road closures and traffic restrictions, recommending the use of the park-and-ride facilities located throughout the town. «With this coordinated plan, Lucena Town Council aims to ensure that Holy Week is safe, well organised and accessible to everyone», he concluded.
