April 4, 2026.- Lucena City Council and the Brotherhood Association seal an ambitious collaboration agreement, which represents an increase of 30,000 euros compared to the previous year, due to the celebration of the Magna Procession, which will take place on September 27, coinciding with World Tourism Day.

Thus, the agreement increases from 65,240 euros in 2024 to 96,900 euros, with the aim of collaborating with the brotherhood entity in the development and execution of the program of activities that the Brotherhood Association holds around Lucena’s Holy Week, to which this year is added the celebration of the Magna Procession, in which a total of 18 images from our Holy Week will participate.

With the presence of the Councillor for Tourism, Francisco Barbancho, after the signing of the agreement between the Mayor of Lucena, Aurelio Fernández, and the President of the Brotherhood Association, Antonio Diaz, they highlighted the importance of the agreement for the successful development and promotion of Lucena’s Holy Week.

The Mayor emphasized the importance of the agreement for the maintenance and growth of Holy Week and insisted that this year, with the celebration of the Magna Procession, Lucena City Council has deemed it necessary to include an extraordinary contribution for its proper organization.

For his part, the President of the Brotherhood Association thanked the City Council for its support to the brotherhoods in covering the expenses of the penitential stations and highlighted the importance of this year, in which with the Magna Procession, “Lucena Lives the Passion,” we will showcase the valuable sculptural heritage and the tradition of saintly imagery of our city.

The Magna Procession will coincide with the celebration of World Tourism Day, thus allowing Lucena to be promoted as an essential destination for religious tourism enthusiasts, for whom Lucena offers much during Lent, Holy Week, and the celebrations of its patron saint festivals and ‘gloria’ festivities. All of this is also within the framework of a rich patrimonial and artistic beauty in the field of sacred art.

It is no coincidence that Lucena is the cradle of Cordovan Baroque and possesses a wide and diverse range in terms of imagery, with carvings by renowned artists, as well as hermitages and churches of great artistic splendor. Added to this is the entire offering of artisan goldsmiths, carvers, etc., that Lucena treasures.
