28th May 2025 – The Board of Officers of the Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena, meeting in ordinary session yesterday, Tuesday 27th May, appointed Lucena-born Jaime Verdú Orellana as the Proclaimer of Holy Week in Lucena for 2026.

Born in 1967, Verdú Orellana has held a degree in Law from the University of Málaga since 1990. A practising lawyer, he has devoted much of his life to literature and has published four collections of poetry, a historical essay and a play.

Committed to the world of brotherhoods and confraternity, he has contributed to the magazines ‘El Torralbo’, ‘Silencio’ and ‘Humildad’, as well as delivering several lectures on theological subjects.

A practising Christian with a deep devotion to his faith, and a lover of Lucena’s customs and traditions, he has held senior positions in various brotherhoods over the past decade. He has served as treasurer and Deputy Head Brother of the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus of the Valley and Mary Most Holy of Sorrows (Cofradía de Nuestro Padre Jesús del Valle y María Santísima de la Amargura), and is currently secretary of the Brotherhood of Nazarenes of the Most Holy Christ of the Blood and Mary Most Holy of the Greatest Sorrow (Cofradía de Nazarenos del Santísimo Cristo de la Sangre y María Santísima del Mayor Dolor). He has also served as Deputy Secretary and Secretary of the Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena.

His experience as a proclaimer began in 2019, when he had the honour of delivering the Exaltation of the Christ of the Valley, and continued in 2021, when he introduced the writer Don Manuel Guerrero Cabrera at his Exaltation.

Verdú Orellana’s commitment to upholding Christian principles and the values of Lucena’s brotherhoods and santería has made him a worthy recipient of this distinction, which he will undoubtedly undertake with emotion and faith. The proclaimer has appointed Jaime Verdú Martín, a Law student at the University of Málaga, to introduce him.
