25th August 2025. – The Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena today unveiled its new official website, conceived as a comprehensive reference platform for both Lucena’s Holy Week and the Passion and Glory brotherhoods and confraternities that form part of it.
Launched in its initial phase, the website places particular emphasis on the Great Passion Procession (Magna) ‘Lucena Lives the Passion’, providing information on the participating sacred images, the churches from which they will set out, musical accompaniment, the official procession route, itineraries, the programme of events leading up to the procession, and interactive routes via Google Maps, among many other resources. The website also includes practical resources for visitors, alongside dedicated sections on Holy Week, Lent, ‘santería’, the town’s brotherhood and confraternities, and the Agrupación de Cofradías itself.

From October, the institution plans to roll out the second phase of the project, which will introduce a range of new features to the website. These will include a confraternity events calendar, the history of every Passion and Glory confraternity —with descriptions, interesting facts, key information and links to their websites and social media channels—, information on youth committees, a noticeboard for the Agrupación de Cofradías, and dedicated sections on Lucena and its cultural heritage, among many other features.
The launch of this new digital platform forms part of the wider strategy to promote and enhance the profile of Lucena’s Holy Week, as it continues to make steady progress towards being recognised as a Festival of National Tourist Interest. Through this initiative, the Agrupación de Cofradías of Lucena is supporting the work being carried out by Lucena Town Council to secure this prestigious designation.
This online platform complements the extensive promotional work already being carried out through social media and the media. National media outlets have already confirmed their attendance at the Great Passion Procession (Magna), while the accreditation period for members of the press will open on 1st September. In addition, and as part of the efforts to further promote the event, a promotional video sponsored by the Córdoba Provincial Council has recently been released. MORE THAN 1,000 SEATS ALREADY RESERVED IN PLAZA NUEVA
Meanwhile, preparations for the Great Passion Procession (Magna), which will take place on 27th September, are progressing steadily. More than 1,000 seats have already been reserved for those wishing to watch the Great Passion Procession (Magna) from Plaza Nueva, the focal point of the official procession route. This represents over half of the 1,853 controlled-access seats available. All proceeds from the reservations will be donated to Parish Charitas of Lucena, giving the event an important charitable dimension.
TORRALBO MAGAZINE: SPECIAL EDITION
Likewise, the Agrupación de Cofradías is putting the finishing touches to the printing of the special edition of its flagship magazine, ‘Torralbo’, which it publishes every Lent. On this occasion, the publication will include articles, historical and heritage notes, photographic galleries, and complete photographs of all eighteen ‘cuadrillas’. The publication will be officially presented during the first week of September, after which it will be available for purchase. A total of 1,200 copies of this collector’s will be printed.
In addition, the institution will also present a fold-out information leaflet in September. A total of 5,000 copies will be printed with the sponsorship of Gestoría Aras. The leaflet will include a timetable of the processional routes, a map of the official procession route, a list of the participating images and the churches where they are housed, together with useful information provided through QR codes linking to the website.
PROGRAMME OF EVENTS: JUBILEE MASS AND PROCESSIONAL TRANSFERS
As part of the programme of events leading up to the occasion, particular prominence will be given to the Solemn Jubilee Mass, which will be celebrated on Friday 26th September at the Major Parish Church of St. Matthew the Apostle, the town’s principal church. The Eucharistic celebration will be presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Córdoba, the Most Reverend Jesús Fernández González, who will impart the Jubilee Blessing to all those present.
Likewise, in the days leading up to the Great Passion Procession (Magna), the town will experience moments of particular significance with the preparatory transfers of some of the participating devotional images from their churches of origin to their designated points of processional departure, as not all of them will begin the Great Passion Procession from their canonical seats. The images to be transferred are as follows: Our Lady of Solitude (on Sunday 21st September); Our Lord Jesus of Humility (on a date to be confirmed); and Our Lord Jesus of the Valley (on Tuesday, 23rd September). In addition, Our Lady of Araceli, who will preside over this historic event, will descend from her Royal Sanctuary on Sunday 21st September.
