9 October 2026 – The statue of Our Lady of the Rosary, venerated at the Parish Church of Saint Dominic de Guzmán in Lucena, has been returned to public veneration following the completion of conservation and restoration work carried out over recent months.

To mark her return, the parish celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving presided over by its parish priest, the Reverend Father Vicente Castander Guzmán, coinciding with the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

The restoration was carried out by conservator-restorers Manuel Espejo Mármol and Miguel Ángel Sánchez Jiménez, who worked to restore the statue’s physical integrity and visual coherence, addressing alterations that had accumulated over time.

Our Lady of the Rosary is a sculpture created by Diego de Ramos in 1713 and is a work of considerable significance within Lucena’s sculptural and devotional heritage. The restorers have also highlighted its artistic connection with the statue of Jesus of Medinaceli, likewise attributed to the same artist.

The restoration work included cleaning and conservation of the polychrome decoration, removal of elements that hindered the statue’s proper appreciation, colour reintegration and the application of a final protective coating.

The project received a grant from Córdoba Provincial Council under its 2025 funding programme, covering 80% of the total cost.

The restoration of Our Lady of the Rosary represents another important contribution to the preservation of Lucena’s religious heritage, allowing this historic statue to once again be publicly venerated by the faithful under appropriate conservation conditions.
