Heritage conservation: a shared responsibility

The heritage preserved by Lucena’s brotherhoods, confraternities and religious institutions represents one of the most important testimonies to the city’s history, art and popular religious traditions. Sacred images of great artistic and devotional value, processional floats, paintings, silverwork and numerous other religious artefacts form a legacy that has been enriched over the centuries and requires continuous efforts to conserve and protect it.

Beyond its religious significance, this heritage is also one of Lucena’s major cultural and tourist attractions, closely linked to its traditions, the work of its local artisans and the distinctive character of its Holy Week and other religious processions honouring Christ, the Virgin Mary and the saints.

In this context, institutional funding provides significant support for the work carried out by religious organisations throughout the year to conserve, protect and care for the heritage entrusted to them, helping to ensure its preservation for future generations.

The Association of Confraternities of Lucena emphasises the importance of continuing to promote conservation and restoration projects to safeguard this valuable heritage, whose protection requires both the commitment of the organisations responsible for it and the support of public authorities.

Provisional decision awaiting final approval

A total of 163 applications were admitted for assessment under the provincial grant programme. Following a technical evaluation of the submitted projects, the assessment committee has proposed awarding grants to 108 organisations whose projects achieved a score of 50 points or more, in accordance with the criteria established in the programme’s guidelines.

The decision is currently provisional and provides for a period of ten working days during which objections may be submitted. Once this period has ended, the proposal will be submitted to the Governing Board of Córdoba Provincial Council for final approval.
