15th February 2026.- Yesterday, Saturday,The Parish Church of Saint Matthew the Apostle hosted the traditional Cofrade Mass, an event that once again brought together those who, throughout the year, sustain the life of Lucena’s brotherhoods with faith and dedication.

The Eucharist was presided over by the Very Reverend José Juan Jiménez Güeto, Diocesan Delegate for Brotherhoods and Confraternities of Córdoba, and was accompanied by the music of Ana Pineda and Jesús Arcos, whose performance helped to create an atmosphere of recollection and prayer appropriate to this period leading up to Lent.

The Agrupación de Cofradías expresses its gratitude to all the Passion and Glory brotherhoods and confraternities for their presence, whose participation provided a visible testimony of unity, fraternity and love for the Church. Gathered around the altar, the members of the brotherhoods and confraternities are reminded that, before the procession, the insignia or the ‘cuadrilla’, there is the faith that gives meaning to everything subsequently expressed publicly in the streets of our town.

Following the celebration, Father José Juan Jiménez Güeto visited the Agrupación’s headquarters, where a time of fraternal fellowship was shared. During the meeting, he signed the institution’s Book of Honour, recording a day that strengthened the ties between the Diocesan Delegation and Lucena’s brotherhood community.

The role of a brotherhood member goes far beyond simply being present on the streets. It is the person who lives out charity in silence, safeguards the heritage entrusted to them, and passes on the tradition with integrity and faith.

Within the imposition of ashes, Lucena now begins a new journey towards Holy Week. Forty days to return to what is essential, prepare the heart, and deepen our understanding of what we shall later proclaim with solemnity. May this season find us united, our eyes fixed on Christ and with a sincere desire to live out our faith with integrity, humility and commitment.
